Potter Year 3 Class
Welcome to Potter Class!
We hope you have an enjoyable and relaxing summer break and are ready for the exciting year ahead. We are looking forward to introducing the children to a range of topics over the year and we have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned!
To start the year we will be looking at 'Buildings' with a historical focus. We will be looking at the different homes people have lived in through history and looking at how architecture has developed. We will look at the evidence that buildings give us for the way people lived in different periouds of history and discuss how they have changed. We will be starting with the Stone Age and working chronologically till the present day, finishing with discussing how buildings may change in the future. In the Spring term, we will have Geography focus looking at 'Rainforests'. We will be learning about the different layers of the rainforest, the animals that live there and discuss the issue of deforestation. In the Summer term, we will return to a historical focus, 'Stories through time', where we will learn about how language has developed through time and look at books as historians. We will also look at some of the stories written in different periods of History and how William Shakespeare has impacted literature.
We will also have the opportunity to take part in some exciting Science investigations. We will be starting the year with 'Animals including humans'. We will be learning all about our bodies, including our skeleton and digestive system.
Children will need their own pencil case next year. Please ensure children have pencils, colouring pencils, a ruler, a pencil sharpener, child-friendly scissors, a glue stick and a whiteboard pen. It is also very important that your child has a green biro to help us with editing and improving our writing. Children will have the opportunity to earn a 'pen license' over the year as they develop their cursive style.
If you wish to, please send your child with a healthy snack to have during break time. Also, please ensure that a named water bottle is brought in daily. They will return each day to be cleaned and refilled.
We look forward to a year of fun and exciting learning with you.
