We loved our visit from Steel today, learning all about resilience and the importance of sleep, healthy diet, being active, hydration and showing gratitude (noticing glimmers). Can anyone beat Steel’s record of 757 burpees nonstop in under an hour?#pshe pic.twitter.com/FLHRxZ2Lkq

As part of Safer Internet Day, year 2 explored a variety of dangers online and discussed how to respond to them. They had some excellent ideas and good knowledge of the safety features of various apps. They created posters to teach younger children about what they had learnt. pic.twitter.com/dWyOSidsdH

This week in assembly we celebrated Martin Luther King day, reading about this inspiring activist who devoted his life to fighting for civil rights. We linked to other activists such as Nelson Mandela, Greta Thunberg, Malala and Rosa Parks; and to our value of respect. pic.twitter.com/TKQlLAdduw

Extra Curricular, Clubs & Activities

Harpenden Academy places great emphasis on extending the curriculum beyond the classroom.

We offer an extensive range of school activities and lunch time clubs.  These range from Tech Club to Multisports, from Piano to Awesome Engineers.

A number of these activities are provided by outside providers and carry a moderate charge.

How to book your child on to a club:

Autumn Term 2025 Contractor Clubs

Autumn Term 2025 Teacher Clubs

All clubs will start on the second week we return to school after Summer, on w/c Monday 8th September 2025 and finish on w/c 8th December 2025 (unless otherwise stated by club)

Contractor Clubs

Please contact the club provider to book your place, it will be on a first come first served basis.  The Club Provider is responsible for all communication and confirmation of external clubs. Please see flyers below for further details. You can contact the club contractors to book your child on to their clubs with immediate effect.

Teacher Clubs

All parents will be able to book their child on to teacher led clubs from Thursday, 4th September 2025 from 5.00pm. You will be able to login to your child's MCAS profile and select the club option from the menu. At 5.00pm you will be able to enrol your child onto their chosen club. If the club is full the system will add your child to the waiting list and the office will inform you if there are any cancellations. We will always do our best to try and accommodate your child’s choices.

Some Key notes:

Please do not rely on these school clubs as childcare, it is dependent on teacher commitments and we may need to cancel them at short notice.

Clubs for our new Reception class are limited to Magical Maths to give children the chance to settle.

Parents of the new Reception class and In Year Admissions will be sent information separately as we are awaiting the MCAS system to synchronise in September.

Magical Maths for Year 2 to Year 6 - As Magical Maths only has four sets of content and our children have now completed all of these - they will return in Sept 2026. This way it keeps everything fresh and exciting for the children.

The Netball instructors have sent an email to parents as they are unable to continue to run netball due to the hall being used for school plays in the Autumn term and our outdoor netball courts are not big enough to run the training sessions. We have made enquiries with SJL to continue to run the club from there, however they are regrettably unable to offer us the option as they are using their courts for their own clubs and matches. We understand that this is disappointing and that Netball4Fun has offered priority booking for Harpenden Academy children for their Saturday club.
