Year 4 have had an amazing time at Rock Up in Watford today. I can't explain how proud I am of the children; they showed resilience, team work and determination during this adventurous activity. The children were such a strong team and so supportive of one another. https://t.co/WFTuY2dtY1

Today in Early Years we were inspired to write by our Talk for Writing text - Emergency, Emergency. This is part of our topic ‘People That Help Us’. The other children were so inspired by Sakina’s perseverance that they all decided to write out the story! https://t.co/prDQrKwHDm

What a great idea to support and promote healthy eating, lovely social interaction and look at all the big smiles. Now we want to know what the treat was for.

Our Year 1 topic is 'Field to Fork.' The children had breakfast and had to think about where the food they ate came from. This term they are going to become 'designers' and learn how to design a healthy meal and make it! Here is an example of the writing they produced today. https://t.co/aenQq4kUme

Elmer Year 1 Class

At the start of Year 1 we provide a gentle transition from Reception (Early Years Foundation Stage) to Year 1 which is suited specifically to the needs of our current cohort.  In Year 1 the classrooms start to look more like a ‘standard classroom’. Gradually throughout Year 1 'child initiated play' will reduce in both time and frequency to prepare the children for their time in Year 2.

Each day will have structured lessons to develop their skills following the new National Curriculum.  In Year 1 we also work on encouraging the children to become independent learners.

During Year 1, we continue to provide healthy fruit/veg snacks.  Please ensure that a named water bottle is brought in daily and taken home daily.

School will start with a 'soft start' between 8:30-8:45am.  If you arrive after 8.50am you will need to sign in at Reception and make your lunch choice for the day. School will finish at the later time of 3:20pm. I will send the children out one by one to ensure they safely reach you, please help me by waving at your child and me!  If you have any queries or concerns please use the link books to communicate and I will always try and respond the same day.

Thank you for all your support, together we will make this an exciting year for the children.
