Year 5 Harpenden Maths Competition
Posted on 07/02/2020On Wednesday, we went to St Albans for a maths competition. There were 21 teams in 12 heats. The winner of each heat got through to the final and so did the top 8 winners of all the heats combined. There were 4 rounds, the 1st and 4th round was problem solving and general maths. The 2nd round was a memory round where you look at a poster and describe it to the other people who had to draw it on an A3 piece of paper (30 sec look, 2min description, repeat 4 times). The 3rd round was an estimation round where you had to estimate the amount, length of something (5min for all 6). We were challenged by many questions during the maths challenge. Many of the estimation round questions were difficult like guessing how much something weights without any scales. The thing we found hardest was putting numbers in order. We had to work out the sum to find the answer and put the answers from largest to smallest.
