21st November 2025

Dear Parents

On Wednesday, the children had their individual and sibling photographs taken. Information on how to view these photos has already been sent to parents, and you should have received a hard copy QR code card from your child's class teacher. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact the school office. The photographs will be available on the Kittle secure online portal within approximately five days.

This week, the stage was set up in the hall—an exciting sign that our EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 children are preparing for their nativity play. This is always such a lively and joyful event. For the children in Ladybird Class, it also marks the end of their first term with us. Details regarding how to book tickets will be sent out next week.

Please note that the school will be closed on Monday, 24th November, for an occasional day. No one will be in school that day. We hope you enjoy a lovely day, and we look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday, 25th November, at 8:30 am.

Plan for Snow

This week we had our first flurry and excitement of snow!  Thankfully the snow disappeared but it did remind me to send out the school process for dealing with snow. Firstly, because of our location we do try to stay open on days which are snowy.  This however all depends on the number of staff able to get into school, plus whether our catering staff can get in.

If due to lack of staff on site and we are not able to stay open here is how parents will be informed:-

In the unlikely event of closure we will always try to give parents as much notice as possible.  The most reliable source of information is the school website.

A decision will be made in the morning by 7.00am on:

  • Whether to open
  • Time to open
  • Arrangements for drop off/pick up

This decision will be posted on the website by 7.15am.  All parents will also receive a MCAS email notification.

Mayor's Christmas Card Competition

On Monday of this week, our school winners of the Mayor's Christmas Card Competition attended an awards ceremony at the Town Hall. Once again congratulations to Harriet Goldsmith who received 'Highly Commended' and to Phoebe Hambridge and Sidney Horne who both received 'Commended' awards.

Exciting News

On Friday 14th November Mrs Keeley in the office became a 'Nana' for the first time. Her grandson, Oscar (known as Ozzy)  is doing very well, and Mrs Keeley can’t stop smiling. Congratulations to Penny on her new role as Nana.

Mrs Withers' Maternity Cover

As parents are already aware, Mrs. Withers is expecting and will be commencing her maternity leave after the Christmas holidays. I am pleased to share that we have appointed a new teacher to cover her maternity leave. Her name is Mrs Lang, an experienced teacher who is new to the area.

We are hopeful that Mrs Lang will be able to visit the school before the Christmas holidays to meet the children and staff. However, due to her recent relocation to the area, this may not be possible. Nevertheless, I can confirm that she will be attending the Christmas nativity to meet with Reception parents specifically.

Clubs

All clubs will start on the second week we return to school after Christmas, on w/c Monday 12th January 2026 and finish on w/c 16th March 2026 (unless otherwise stated by club).

Contractor Clubs

Please contact the club provider to book your place, it will be on a first come first served basis.  The Club Provider is responsible for all communication and confirmation of external clubs. Please see flyers below for further details. You can contact the club contractors to book your child on to their clubs with immediate effect.

Contractor Club Timetable Spring 2026 (1)

Teacher Clubs

All parents will be able to book their child on to teacher led clubs from Thursday, 27th November 2025 from 5.00pm. You will be able to login to your child's MCAS profile and select the club option from the menu. At 5.00pm you will be able to enrol your child onto their chosen club. If the club is full the system will add your child to the waiting list and the office will inform you if there are any cancellations. We will always do our best to try and accommodate your child’s choices.

Please do not rely on these school clubs as childcare, it is dependent on teacher commitments and we may need to cancel them at short notice.

Teacher Club Timetable Spring 2026KEY NOTES:

  • Chess has moved to lunchtime on Tuesday with Mrs Wong (no longer after school)
  • All children will need to enrol on clubs to give everyone a fair chance - including choir this term.
  • Netball club will restart in the Summer term for Year 5 and Year 6 girls.

Belonging Day – Wednesday, 26th November 2025

We are so excited for Belonging Day on Wednesday 26th November! Mrs Withers, alongside Mrs Wong and the Diversity parent group (namely Jake and Lillia's mum!) have planned a wonderful programme of events that will help us explore what makes each of us feel a sense of belonging. Throughout the day, children will take part in vibrant international dances, learn about the cultures and celebrations represented in our classrooms, and enjoy activities supported by our amazing parent volunteers. It’s sure to be a joyful day of learning, sharing, and celebrating what makes our school community so special. Look out for what we get up to on our school Instagram page!

Christmas Tree Fundraiser Volunteers Needed

We are still looking for more parent volunteers and would really appreciate it if any other parents could step forward to offer their time to help raise some serious money for our school!

The Christmas tree fundraiser is one of our biggest, delivering beautiful trees all over and beyond Harpenden. We deliver to school families as well as members of the wider community, raising lots of money for our school, as well as money for other local schools and nurseries.

There are several slots to choose from over the mornings of Thursday 4th, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th December, and you can commit to as little as one hour, (but it would be fantastic if you could sign up for more than one slot!)

It is a genuinely feel good, community spirited and fun few days, a perfect way to kick off the festive season and spread cheer around the community (think excited kids pressed up against windows awaiting delivery of their magical tree) and, most importantly of all, a great way to contribute to our children’s school experience. Santa hats are optional but encouraged.
