We loved our visit from Steel today, learning all about resilience and the importance of sleep, healthy diet, being active, hydration and showing gratitude (noticing glimmers). Can anyone beat Steel’s record of 757 burpees nonstop in under an hour?#pshe pic.twitter.com/FLHRxZ2Lkq

Lunar new year celebrations last week pic.twitter.com/GAQmtKUjeU

14th March 2025

Dear Parents

We've had some fantastic science experiences this week in celebration of Science Week—more on that below.

Looking ahead, next week promises to be just as exciting with International Poetry Day and Red Nose Day on Friday 21st March.

On International Poetry Day, we’re thrilled to welcome back Professor Pango Mango! He’ll be leading our assembly and working with the children throughout the day. If you haven’t seen him before, we highly recommend joining us for Friday morning’s assembly—he’s the perfect way to kick-start the weekend!

Friday, 21st March is also Red Nose Day, and we are embracing the theme of 'Red-to-toe' and children are welcome to come to school wearing something red - a hair band, socks, Tshirt - or in comfy clothes. Please make your donation of £1 via Parentpay from Monday, 17th March 2025.

Sad News

It is with great sadness that I inform parents that Laura Jones, our Stay and Play manager, has resigned due to her continuing ill health. She has been unwell since September but has decided that she needs to resign as she needs to concentrate on getting better. We are all so sad as she has been with us from the beginning and I know the children love her and will really miss her.  We will miss her life force, her joy, her never ending supply of goodies to keep on going, but more importantly we will just miss her!

Mrs Marchment has been terrific at filling in for Laura and I am very grateful for her flexibility.  She will continue to lead the ‘wrap around’ in the school, and she will ensure there is continuity for the children.

Good News

This week we see the return or Mrs Keeley back on our reception desk.  We have missed her hugely and are so happy to have her home with us.  Mrs Keeley is still on a phased return but hopefully will be back 100% soon.

Holi Festival

The festival foyer has now been decorated by the Boohdna family, myself and Mrs Withers to mark the festival of Holi.  The children have had huge fun today marking the festival with coloured bio-degradable confetti.  Traditionally coloured paint is thrown, not coloured confetti but sadly we are unable to do that.

Please take time to pop your head into the school to see the decorations.

Congratulations to Our Poetry Finalists! Entered into the Harpenden Schools Primary Writing Competition!

Below are the finalists from Harpenden Academy who have taken part in the Hertfordshire Poetry Competition which is open to all primary schools. This is a completely unaided piece of work, which must be typed, and we as teachers are unable to support or change anything.  We wish our finalists well and fingers crossed we might have a winner.

Slide2Trust Concert, Tuesday 11th March 2025

On Tuesday members of our choir and our talented musicians performed at the annual Scholars’ Education Trust concert at The Grove Theatre in Dunstable. We enjoyed singing in the primary choir with the other primary schools in the Trust and we then had the opportunity to sing as Harpenden Academy choir. Also, Ben, Kieran and Aidan wowed us by playing in the primary orchestra. The children really enjoyed watching the acts from the secondary schools and they felt inspired to perform next year.

Annual Fun Run, Rothamsted Park, Wednesday 26th March 10.00am-11.00am - SAVE THE DATE

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE FROM TUESDAY TO WEDNESDAY.

We are delighted to announce that our annual charity Fun Run, organised by Year 6, is returning on Wednesday, 26th March, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

All children will take part in the Fun Run, and we kindly ask for a voluntary contribution of £2.00. Additionally, Year 6 is hosting a snack fundraiser, and parents who wish to purchase a snack for their child can do so with a £1.00 payment via the ParentPay app. By making the payment on Parentpay you are consenting to your child eating a home baked snack item with ingredients listed.

To summarise:

  • All children will participate in the Fun Run.
  • If you are able, please make a donation via ParentPay.
  • If you would like your child to receive a snack after the run, an additional payment option is available on ParentPay.

All proceeds will go towards supporting three important charities as part of the fundraising efforts led by the Headteacher at Kimpton Primary. Thank you for your support!
