Dear Parents

Again this week the lucky children at Harpenden Academy have experienced live learning under the driver of first hand experiences.

Year 4 London Transport Museum

Year 4 children spent Wednesday at The London Transport Museum, exploring the history of transport. They particularly enjoyed seeing the vintage buses, iconic tube trains, and interactive exhibits, which brought their learning to life. A big thank you to the parents who joined us to support this adventure; your involvement made the day even more special!

Year 6 Crucial Crew

Year 6 spent Thursday morning at the St Albans fire station attending the ‘Crucial Crew Event,’ designed specifically to prepare them for the next stage of their lives after primary school. The children received valuable tips on how to recognise and handle real-life situations. They learnt about personal and online safety, as well as how to respond to various hazards, from house fires to floodwaters.

The kids had a fantastic time, and this experience marks the beginning of our transition process to get them ready for secondary school.

This event is a cherished tradition at Harpenden Academy. On Wednesday, the children learned about the origins of World Smile Day during assembly. Then, on Friday, smiles filled the day as the kids participated in various activities. This morning we had a special Friday morning assembly from the science club hoping to run a half term holiday club.  The children enjoyed the assembly and I have again attached the flyer should parents be interested. Live experiments designed to make everyone smile!

Parent Coffee Morning - Behaviour

Coffee

On Thursday 24th October at 9:00am, Mrs Curnow will be holding a coffee morning to share the school's approach to behaviour management and how we aim to support the physical and emotional wellbeing of our children. Please note, this will not be an appropriate forum to discuss individual children or incidents.

Lost Property

On Monday, we had a large collection of lost property to give away. All unclaimed items were offered to parents free of charge.

We’ve returned all the named items to their owners, and we hope they won’t be misplaced again! Any leftover clothes have been donated to FoHA for preloved clothing.

We will continue to manage lost property at school, but please encourage your children to take responsibility for their belongings. One parent shared that when she asked her child about their missing jumper, the response was, “I am a child, not an adult!” We’ll be focusing on building independence skills with the children!
