Dear Parents
Phew “what a scorcher“ as the old expression goes. While it was lovely to feel summer had arrived on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the children and staff were much more comfortable Thursday and Friday.
Please continue sending children in with sun hats, applying sun cream before school, plus water bottles.
This week has been District Sports. This event constantly amazes me at the quality of athleticism – the children were amazing!. Thank you Miss Harvey and other staff and parents for staying late in the heat to see the children compete.
Words from Miss Harvey...
This year, over 35 children from KS2 represented Harpenden Academy at this very competitive district sports event. We had some standout performances:
- George (Year 6, 400m), Finished 7th
- Jersey and Rex (Year 3, 70m sprint), Both made the final
- Joseph (Year 3, 200m): Finished 4th
- Year 3 Girls Relay Team (Gabriella, Zuri-Lee, Jersey, Aria): Made the final
Special mentions also go to Joseph, Flori, Reagan, and Luca for joining the relay teams at the last minute, showing great determination and resilience. An extra special mention goes to Winston, who, despite being injured during the Year 4 sprint race, persevered and continued to compete in the Year 4 relay team. Well done, Winston!
Well done to all the children representing Harpenden Academy. You showed great team spirit by cheering on each other and other schools. It was wonderful to watch you compete so well against other schools.
Thank you to Mr. King, Mrs. Moss, Mrs. Dobbin, and Mrs. Wong, who all stayed until 7:30pm to enable our children to attend the event.
School Games Mark
On Monday we received the news that the school had once again received the Gold Award from the School Games Mark Organisation. This the 2nd year in a row this award has been granted, meaning that we will be able to start going for the platinum award. For a school which has such limiting facilities this is a huge achievement.
Work Experience
Next week the school will have several children from local secondary schools taking part in their work experience week. This is just courtesy to let parents know that extra adults are in school.
WWF Day
On Friday the children came to school dressed as an animal to raise money for WWF – they also took part in Earth Day activities in the afternoon, involving recycled pieces of card or paper. It is not too late to donate to the Eco-Council 'Dress as an Animal' day - please make your £1 donation via Parentpay. We have raised £119 so far - thank you for your support.
SEND Parents Meeting
Monday 1st July at 9.00am, Ms Ladan Shirazi Director of SEND, will be holding a parent meeting for SEND parents. She will be discussing the progress Harpenden County Council are making towards improving SEND provision across the County, but will also be addressing the SEND concerns locally and nationally.
Happy Birthday this week to: Clark M (Yr6), Rianne P(Yr1), Arthur W (Yr3), Ashnoor D (R), Leona K (Yr3), Harleen N (Yr 3), Tilly T (Yr5).
