We loved our visit from Steel today, learning all about resilience and the importance of sleep, healthy diet, being active, hydration and showing gratitude (noticing glimmers). Can anyone beat Steel’s record of 757 burpees nonstop in under an hour?#pshe pic.twitter.com/FLHRxZ2Lkq

As part of Safer Internet Day, year 2 explored a variety of dangers online and discussed how to respond to them. They had some excellent ideas and good knowledge of the safety features of various apps. They created posters to teach younger children about what they had learnt. pic.twitter.com/dWyOSidsdH

19th January 2024

Dear Parents

There has been a definite nip in the air this week but hopefully the temperature will increase as predicted.  Thankfully it looks like we have dodged the snow.

Highlight of the week

This week's highlight is a personal one.  On Wednesday afternoon myself, Mrs V, Mrs Ross and two parents took Milne class to Sir John Lawes to learn how to work with clay and use their art department.

This will be a regular Wednesday journey to support their art topic of 'Dragon's Eyes.'  It was so lovely to see the children getting to grips with the clay and facilities. I even received a hug from a previous Year 6 child who was in the next door textile class.  Sadly, we were so involved I forgot to take photos!  Watch this space however!  If there are any parents who have a secret skill with clay and who are DBS checked let me know as many hands make light work.

Reading Workshop

On Monday, Mrs Withers and Mrs Watson met with Reception and Year One parents to discuss how to support with reading and to go over our new reading process. We have been very lucky to have been given lots of support to enhance our teaching of reading and ensure all of our children are getting high quality consistent teaching. For those parents who were unable to attend, please click here to access the power point from the meeting. Any questions, please speak with your child's class teacher.

Survey Results

Many thanks to those parents who completed our parent questionnaire back in November 2023.

We have taken time to analyse the survey results carefully and build in your views when planning our School Development Plan. We have looked closely at the questionnaire and comments which were received (91 parent replies). Overall, there was a very positive response, with many respondents expressing support for the school through their answers and comments given in the comments box. The results will be discussed at our next Governor's meeting.

  Parent replies
My child is happy at school 98%
My child feels safe at this school 99%
The school makes sure children are well behaved 99%
The school supports my child's wider development 98%

Parents' Evening

This event went live on Monday, 15th January 2024 at 5.00pm.  If you have yet to book your space please do so quickly as parents' evening at Harpenden Academy is always well supported so times run out quite quickly.

Holiday Dates

Holiday dates for next academic year will be appearing shortly on the school website.  We will alert you as to when they are live.
