Reception Visit to St Albans Cathedral

Last Friday, our Reception class had a fantastic trip to St Albans Cathedral! The children explored their surroundings using their senses, starting with a look at the beautiful stained glass windows, which told stories through pictures. They learned that many people couldn’t read long ago, so stories were shared through the windows' colours and shapes, inspiring their creativity. In the afternoon, they took part in a fun senses trail, exploring the cathedral environment and completing challenges like listening carefully, feeling horse hair in the walls, and discovering faces and birds in the carvings. They even found fossils and touched the cold marble font! It was a memorable and educational day for everyone.

Maypole Dancing

Students at Harpenden Academy thoroughly enjoyed their recent Maypole Dancing workshop. With bright ribbons and plenty of enthusiasm, pupils worked together to learn traditional steps and patterns, celebrating the spirit of spring. The workshop was a fantastic opportunity to build teamwork, coordination, and confidence, and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as the children mastered the dance.

Dentist Visit to Ladybird Class

Ladybirds had a very exciting visit from a Dentist who came to talk to us about looking after our teeth. She explained how important it was to clean our teeth twice a day , but because we weren’t 8 yet we shouldn’t be brushing our teeth by ourselves, we still need a grown up to help. We talked about food and drink that is good for our teeth and what is bad for our teeth .

The dentist read us a fun story about “sugar bugs” that live on our teeth and can cause holes if we do not brush properly. To learn how best to brush our teeth the children used disclosure tablets which turned any plaque on their teeth blue. They were fascinated to see where they had missed when brushing. Everyone then practised brushing their teeth carefully to make sure all the blue colour disappeared. It was a fun and informative visit and the children learned lots about how to keep their teeth healthy and strong.

Chess Tournament

On Thursday, some of our chess club representatives participated in an interschool chess tournament at Crabtree Juniors. The standard of play was incredibly high, and our children performed exceptionally well. We are still awaiting the final results. Although we did not retain our small school trophy this time, we remain hopeful as we await the official standings to see if we managed to land in the top three schools. It was a close competition, and we are proud of everyone's efforts!

Congratulations! Tennis Success, 8&U Tennis County Club

We want to celebrate with you all the amazing achievement of Murphy B in Year 3. Murphy plays tennis at Harpenden LTC on a regular basis, and was one of 8 boys selected to represent Hertfordshire in the 8&U County Club Tennis Tournment last weekend.

Murphy played in both single and double matches winning all of his matches, playing with resilience and determination throughout. The team came fourth overall in the competition, which is a real testament of their talents, and were duly rewarded with a very impressive medal which Murphy is proudly displaying below.  Well done Murphy!!
