We loved our visit from Steel today, learning all about resilience and the importance of sleep, healthy diet, being active, hydration and showing gratitude (noticing glimmers). Can anyone beat Steel’s record of 757 burpees nonstop in under an hour?#pshe pic.twitter.com/FLHRxZ2Lkq

27th March 2026

Dear Parents

The Easter holidays are just around the corner and this will be the last newsletter of the Spring term.

It has been an action packed half term full of learning and adventures both inside and outside of the classroom.

Easter Service

The Easter Service is a favourite of mine and the children didn’t disappoint again this year. It was also lovely to be back at St Nicholas Church with the Lovely Father Moriarty.

Thank you to all the parents who came to support this event and those who remembered to bring flowers for the cross.

Bikeability

The Year 6 children have been taking part in their Bikeability road safety training in preparation for Year 7. This is never an easy week as it does test the children’s road awareness and their confidence as they tackle the trials independently. Riding a bike is a bit of a diminishing skill in today's world so it is even more important that the children have the chance to test their skills and knowledge in a safe environment.

2026 Annual Harpenden & Villages Schools’ Letter Writing Competition

We are very proud to say Hazel Elias from Year 1 won first prize in the 2026 Annual Harpenden & Villages Schools’ Letter Writing Competition. The competition encouraged students to write persuasive letters to an adult on various topics, with entries judged by Deputy Heads’ representatives. Hazel's winning letter was recognised for its excellence, and the Mayor presented Hazel with her certificate on this morning.

Grow your Dough

My goodness me, the 'Grow your Dough' enterprise challenge came to an end this week and we have all marvelled at the children and parents hard work over the past month. We will be putting up a huge display in the entrance of the school showing the activities and the individual amount raised. Some parents have been kind enough to write in letters of support for the event but also detailing how the event has made the children think about money in a different way- which is a brilliant life skill to have.

We are not sure of the final amount- we will wait to hear from FoHA after Easter once they have counted up the pennies - but I am hoping that it is around the £1000 mark!

FoHA thank you

As a thank you to all the children and to celebrate the end of the term FoHA arrange a fun filled Friday morning for them with bouncy castles, fairground games, Wack a Mole, football dartboard and giant board games. This is such a kind and generous way to celebrate the end of the Spring Term and we all are very grateful. Thank you FoHA.

Easter Egg Hunt

This is happening on Friday, 3rd April 2026 and is FoHA's main fundraising drive. We have seen over the past term how much FoHA enables our school to have a full range of exciting activities so would be brilliant to have parental support on the day. The details are below and I hope to see many of you there. I will be on the face painting stall, so fingers crossed our paths cross.

Easter

Harpenden Easter Egg Hunt - Good Friday, 3rd April 2026, from 11am,  Harpenden Common, £6 per child (£8 per child on the day)

Harpenden Easter Egg Hunt tickets are now live - please visit Harpenden Easter Egg Hunt — Friends of Harpenden Academy to book your ticket!

Join us for some Easter family fun!

Hop along to Harpenden Common and follow our Easter Egg Trail, cracking the clues as you go. Once you’ve completed the trail, head over the road to Lourdes Hall to collect your Easter egg from the Easter Bunny himself

We’re delighted to welcome Traffic Light Arts, who’ll be running a range of creative activities for older children. There’ll also be glitter tattoosface painting, and the return of our ever-popular bouncy castle for all the keen jumping bunnies!

Why not stop by our Lego-themed bar, hosted by the fantastic Platform Wines, where grown-ups can enjoy a drink while younger guests get creative with Lego nearby?

Too many eggs? Not to worry — we’ll have plenty of savoury and sweet treats available, including delicious food from Emilio's Lebanese Street Food.

It’s sure to be a great day out for the entire family!

Easter Egg Hunt: call out for parent volunteers

Last year, we sold over 500 tickets and welcomed nearly 400 families from Harpenden and the surrounding areas to enjoy our trail and the activities in our “Egg Quarters”.

To make this year’s event a success, we need a minimum of five parent volunteers from each class to support with:
 - welcoming families to the trail and providing information,
 - supervising the bouncy castle,
 - helping with arts, crafts, face painting and glitter tattoos
 - helping families cross the road safely
 - setting up and clearing away our event

Children are very welcome along during your volunteer slot.

For more information and to sign up, please visit Friends of Harpenden Academy: Easter Egg Hunt - Volunteer Sign Up

Finish School at 12 noon

Final reminder..we finish school on today on FRIDAY, 27th March at 12 noon and we come back to school on Monday 13th April 8.30 am.

In the meantime, may I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a wonder spring term break with plenty of rest and relaxation – if you can manage it.

Thank you once again for your support over the Spring term and we will see you ready and waiting to go on Monday 13th April.

New Catering Company- Innovate

As mentioned last week we have a new catering company starting in the summer term called Innovate. This week parents have been sent all of the information relating to the new company with a very clear set of instructions from the office staff as to what parents need to do next.

Please click here to read all about our new catering provider.

This page includes:

  • instructions on how parents can activate their child's account once they receive login details on Thursday, 2nd April 2026.
  • how to order your child's dinners daily, weekly, monthly or termly.
  • a link to the new summer term menu.
  • a link to the summer term allergy menu.

Please note that if your child has an allergy then parents need to complete the Pupil Allergy Form asap. Innovate will then be in touch to confirm if your child will choose from the set 'Allergy Menu' or if your child needs a bespoke menu designed for them specifically. The office will upload any dietary notes such as Vegan, Pescatarian, Vegetarian etc..before we return on 13th April 2026.

For the first month there will be a representative of the company in the kitchen with the catering staff making sure that the new menus and the new ways of operating are in alignment with the company’s philosophy.

Please read through the information and if there are any queries, please contact the office who will be able to support you.
