As part of Safer Internet Day, year 2 explored a variety of dangers online and discussed how to respond to them. They had some excellent ideas and good knowledge of the safety features of various apps. They created posters to teach younger children about what they had learnt.

Year 3 had a visit from Hands on Science and took part in a workshop on biological diversity.

This week in assembly we celebrated Martin Luther King day, reading about this inspiring activist who devoted his life to fighting for civil rights. We linked to other activists such as Nelson Mandela, Greta Thunberg, Malala and Rosa Parks; and to our value of respect.

Ladybirds have had a fantastic ! We have loved hearing about jobs that use numbers and dressing up! We are so inspired. We also made foot rulers to measure things in the classroom.

Our fourth visitor of the day was Tendaii, a train and air engineer. Our Y6’s were fascinated by his models and recognised how scale factors work in producing drafts of projects.

Paddington Year 2 Class

Welcome to Year 2! What an adventure we have ahead! We hope you are just as excited about the year ahead as we are!

In Paddington Class, we encourage a can-do attitude. We value kindness, teamwork, and becoming confident, inquisitive learners.

Throughout the year, there will be a strong focus on Reading, Writing, and Maths, with these subjects usually taught in the morning. In the afternoons, we’ll explore our topic-based learning, as well as enjoy weekly Art/DT, PSHE, RE, Computing, and Music lessons.

We have many exciting topics to look forward to!

  • In History, we’ll begin with The Story of the High Street, discovering how Harpenden has changed over time.
  • In Geography, we’ll explore Our Local Area, which ties in perfectly with our History learning.
  • Moving into the spring term, we’ll learn all about Walter Tull and why he was such a significant figure during WW2. In Geography, we’ll study the people and places of Australia.
  • By the summer term, our History topic will be Changes in Living Memory, where we’ll look at inventions through time. In Geography, we’ll take a closer look at the vibrant city of Hong Kong.

In Key Stage 1, we encourage independence. Please ensure your child brings their pencil case (glue stick, whiteboard pen and colouring pencils only please), reading book & reading record, raincoat and a bottle of water every day. 

We can’t wait to share a fun-filled, inspiring year with you all!
