We loved our visit from Steel today, learning all about resilience and the importance of sleep, healthy diet, being active, hydration and showing gratitude (noticing glimmers). Can anyone beat Steel’s record of 757 burpees nonstop in under an hour?#pshe pic.twitter.com/FLHRxZ2Lkq

As part of Safer Internet Day, year 2 explored a variety of dangers online and discussed how to respond to them. They had some excellent ideas and good knowledge of the safety features of various apps. They created posters to teach younger children about what they had learnt. pic.twitter.com/dWyOSidsdH

Dear Parents

Hearts and Minds Project

This term, our school's "Hearts and Minds" project has two exciting events lined up.

The first event is the Year 5 play, scheduled for May 2024. The Year 5 children have just received their roles, and rehearsals, including song practice, started yesterday. Free tickets for parents will be available online soon. Keep an eye out for more information.

The second event, "Harpenden's Got Talent," will be held in late July after all children have returned from their respective school day trips and residential outings. The exact date will be announced soon.

Trips

May in school is packed with trips and workshops, providing fantastic opportunities for the children at our school. Note that some events are not yet on Operoo, so please keep checking for updates to ensure a quick response.

Here's what we have planned:

  • Year 2 Lydekker Park
  • Year 5 Ancient Greece Workshop
  • Year 4 Hearts and Mind trip to the Oval
  • Year 3 Forces Workshop
  • Ladybird walk to St Nicholas' Church

Hayfever Season

As hayfever season is here for some but is approaching for others, we are happy to administer, Piriton and Piriteze  to help alleviate the symptoms.  Please provide your own medication in a named bottle and come to the office or go online to complete the medicine permission form.  This is also the same for Calpol.

Clubs

Both 'ArtShed' and 'Tiger Cheer' made the decision this week to cancel their clubs for the summer term as sadly they didn't get enough children booked on the sessions. Both Contractors have emailed all parents to let them know.

Dates for Diaries

Reminder: Family Fun Science Evening, Thursday 16th May 2024, 6.30pm-8.30pm

This is a free event and no tickets are required. Please RSVP via the Edulink form by Monday, 13th May 2024 as the numbers will give Mark an indication of how much equipment he needs to bring.

Lovely Mark the Science man is returning to school in May but for the adults this time!

Mark holds a family science evening where teams - usually family members pit their science wits against each other in a very family friendly science competition. Last year the science activity was based upon the Mars Rover dropping on Mars without breaking. We used an egg and dropped it off the balcony!

If you have been to one of Mark's family science events you will know they are huge fun and not at all competitive. The children are welcome and often come in to school in their PJs so they can go straight to bed afterwards. Mark will be returning on Thursday, 16th May, 6.30pm-8.30pm.
