Community Initiatives

Harpenden Academy’s aims and values have community cohesion at the heart of everything we do. We work in partnership with our community and other organisations to ensure we do all we can to promote and establish strong, respectful relationships that enhance the outcomes for children and their families.

The curriculum of our school aims to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, emotional and physical development of our pupils and of society and prepare our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

Our school has a thriving, cohesive community but it also has a vital part to play in building a more cohesive society.

Harpenden Academy has good links with other schools locally and within the Trust in order to give our pupils the opportunity to mix with and learn with, from and about those from different backgrounds.

Through our ethos and curriculum, we promote a common sense of identity and support diversity, showing pupils how different communities can be united by common experiences and values.

Year 5 Fundraising for Turkey & Syria Appeal

We are so proud of our Year 6 leaders for planning, organising and delivering a wonderful fundraising day to raise money for those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria: non-uniform, a cake sale and exciting activities run in each class during the afternoon including bracelet making with Year 5. At the last count, Year 6 has managed to raise a staggering £845.17. If you would like to make a donation there is still time. Please log on to Parentpay to make the donation against the Turkey & Syria payment item.

Red Nose Day, Friday 17th March 2023

There was a sea of red in school today to celebrate Red Nose Day. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated £1.00 to wear non school uniform and to join us in the class dance session. All classes also held a joke telling session and many of the jokes made the staff roar with laughter! It is not too late to donate money using your Parentpay account. We are currently at an impressive total of £272 for Comic Relief. The deadline for making donations will be Wed, 22nd March an all donations will be gratefully received. Thank you to Mrs Curnow and our School Council for organising this event.

Harvest

Queen Elizabeth 11

Harpenden Academy is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. She served the nation magnificently with a steadfast sense of duty. We extend our condolences to the Royal Family.

This morning we have held an assembly with the children to commemorate the life of Her Majesty and the teachers have followed their normal timetable and addressed the Queen's death in an age appropriate and child friendly way.

MacMillan Cake Sale

Once again, Harpenden Academy has embraced our Macmillan Bake Sale. We look forward to seeing you at pick up today at 3.20pm and there are some delicious goodies on sale. We are encouraging a cashless bake sale so please can parents donate by clicking on this link to donate or scan the QR code on the poster below. You can donate before, during or after the cake sale.

The library is wall-to-wall cakes today which is highly tempting as we all walk through. Thank you so much to parents, once again, for your huge generosity towards this important cause. We will give you a final total next week however I can report we have currently raised £662.75.

MacMillan Cake Sale

As always the MacMillan event at school was a huge success, despite 'covidness' and we have had a bumper amount of money raised again this year. We raised an impressive £715.52!

Thank you to everyone who took part especially the person who made a rather splendid cake which sold for £10. You made my life considerably easier last weekend as I didn't need to provide desserts!!

FoHA thank you so much for taking this project under your wing and making it fly. It was a terrific turn out of cake and also a terrific level of FoHA support to make the event work.

Thank you to FOHA for taking the lead on today, I appreciate it.
